Gone VOIP yet?

Saturday 3 February 2007 @ 7:20 am

VOIP is a great way of saving heaps on international and national telephone calls. It stands for Voice over Internet. If you haven’t heard of Skype it’s pretty much a household word now.

E.g You’ll here people say ” Skype me”. No not bite me. So what’s the hype on Skype and voip. It’s money honey. Savings and talking without paying huge bucks to the phone company. Yes my friends it’s communication almost free.

So what do I need. Well you do need a bit of equipment to take advantage of the voip world. You may need a voip enabled modem. Most modern ones are already set up for it. You could also find a little voip phone useful. Saves you having to use headsets.

Voip Shopping is a portal to ebay where you can search for voip equipment - modems, phones and heaps of good cheap voip shopping stuff.

Motorola RAZR V3x

Thursday 9 March 2006 @ 5:09 pm

I just replaced my mobile phone, because my current service provider Orange, has been amalgamated into Three 3-G.
The phone I have now is a Motorola RAZR V3x. So I thought I would do a quick review.

Firstly - the call quality is excellent. The screen quality is good. The build quality is average. The technical functionality is dysfunctional. The menu system is a little clumsy but I’m used to Nokias. I don’t know why people just don’t copy their menu system or is it patented, because most others are just nuts.

Why? Well the plastic cover that covers the camera lens was not flush with the phone body.

This is obviously a problem in QA - evidently saving money somewhere.

There is one thing that is really pissing me off. The data cable that connects the phone to my USB port is not working. There is no troubleshooting instructions available. I have wasted 4 hours on it now. In frustration I looked around the forums and found that this was a common problem.

So there you go. Great phone in general but be prepared to enter your phone numbers in manually. I advised Three of the camera lens defect - just in case it falls off.

Look - I’ve never owned a motorola before - always been a nokia man - and am used to their build quality.

And one last thing - this state of affairs would never have occurred if my phone company had called me and asked me if everything was going well. How often does this aspect of customer service occur?

Yes my friends - there is no such thing as a free lunch. Should either Three or motorola wish to contact me regarding this matter feel free to do so and I will demonstrate the defective goods.

Harsh stuff. But hell - it all can’t be cool can it.

It’s just lucky that I only really want the phone to make and receive calls.

Oh yeah, the CD has got chinese writing on the front - Motorala - I speak english. I’m paying decent money - please get your CDs translated.

I better stop here.

Ok good night world.

Personal and In Car Navigation Systems

Sunday 30 October 2005 @ 8:27 am

Wow! My friend Tom just bought a Nav Man personal navigation system. Actually, no it was a gift from his daughter. We had a lot of fun with it, driving about the city.

This things pretty smart. It readjusts itself if you go off route and then gives you the new route to your destination. The female voice is pleasant but I wouldn’t call it sexy. You wouldn’t want to make your wife or girlfriend jealous if you fell in love with your Nav Man.

I’m thinking of getting one myself. You see I regularly go off the beaten track - sometimes on public transport and if you can’t find a passer by to give you directions it can be a pain. This is the ultimate in
personal navigation. I’d never be lost again!

Stop! That’s it! I’m convincing myself more and more to buy one. I’ve got to stop writing now…
